Lower School Curriculum at WIS
Lower School
In Lower School at GEMS Wellington International School, we provide an exceptional learning experience for children from FS to Year 4. We believe these years are vital for shaping each child's interests, talents, values and self-confidence. Our mission is to nurture curious, compassionate learners who not only understand the world around them but are inspired to improve it. We achieve this through innovation, collaboration and a socially responsible mindset.
Rooted in the core values of integrity, empathy, and fortitude, we strive to develop individuals who demonstrate honesty in their actions, kindness in their interactions, and resilience in the face of challenges. These values are part of everyday life at our school, helping students grow into confident, kind and resilient individuals while they learn.
We offer a rich, balanced curriculum aligned with the UK National Curriculum, ensuring a seamless progression into Secondary School. Learning is thoughtfully personalised to match each child's strengths and passions, with engaging, real-world lessons that spark curiosity and meaningful connections across subjects.
Our classrooms are dynamic spaces filled with creative exploration, open-ended inquiry and collaborative problem-solving. Our outstanding teachers encourage students to ask big questions, think critically and develop the independence and confidence to lead their own learning journey.
With a focus on academic excellence, personal growth and holistic development, our Lower School phase empowers children to thrive today and lead with purpose tomorrow.

Overview
Continuing their Lower School journey our Students progress into Years 1-4 where they follow the National Curriculum for England. Through a rich, diverse and exciting curriculum offer, our students develop into well rounded, confident learners pursuing ‘excellence’ in all that they do. English, Maths and Science are very important and are considered the core subjects in our Lower School, combined with our Arabic and Islamic provision. Alongside these are the familiar non-core subjects of; Art, Computing, Modern Foreign Languages, Humanities, Music, Drama, and Physical Education.
As one of only 13 schools worldwide to hold the status of a High-Performance Learning (HPL) World Class School we ensure that through our Values, Attitudes and Attributes (VAA’s) our students develop into well rounded global citizens, who actively seek challenge, take risks and develop themselves as leaders of the future.

Beyond the Curriculum
Outside of the classroom, our Beyond the Curriculum programme at WIS provides opportunities for students to continue learning outside of the traditional classroom. With an emphasis on developing and embedding knowledge through experiences such as Lego construction in FS through to the business and economics society in Years 12-13. It provides opportunities to embrace creativity and confidence through performing arts and, develop future leaders, and foster teamwork through the Wildcats programme. Our co-curricular offer embodies the WIS values of Integrity, Empathy and Fortitude.
