Christopher Smith
Assistant Headteacher - Curriculum Organisation and Timetables
I am a dedicated educator with a passion for history, Latin, and global politics. My academic foundation is rooted in the study of History and Classics at the University of Nottingham, where I developed a deep appreciation for the complexities of ancient civilizations. Among my particular areas of interest are Classical Greece, with its rich intellectual and cultural legacies, and Medieval Europe, especially the fascinating dynamics of the Hundred Years’ War. These periods continue to inspire my teaching and research, allowing me to bring the past to life in the classroom.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my career is teaching the International Baccalaureate Global Politics course. The subject is uniquely engaging because of its constant relevance to contemporary global affairs. The ever-changing political landscape ensures that students and I are continually presented with new and “interesting” case studies to examine, fostering critical thinking and meaningful discussion. I take pride in guiding students through these complex issues, equipping them with the analytical tools needed to understand the interconnected world they inhabit.
In addition to my classroom role, for the past four years I have served as Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for timetables. This position has been both challenging and immensely enjoyable, particularly within the dynamic context of education in the United Arab Emirates. With rapid policy developments and frequent changes occurring within a single academic year, the role demands flexibility, creativity, and problem-solving at speed. I thrive in this fast-paced environment, where no two years, or indeed terms, are the same. Managing timetables is not merely a logistical task but a vital part of supporting the wider school community, ensuring that learning opportunities are maximized for both students and staff.
