Ruth Dunn

Head of Year 11

This will be my third year here at GEMS Wellington International School.  I started my teaching career in Scotland,  teaching in schools in Central Scotland.  After an 18 year career of working in banking in a variety of roles; including Business Relationship Manager, Marketing Manager and Business Development Manager.  I also owned and ran two businesses of my own prior to retraining.  I moved to Dubai in August 2020 with my family and joined WIS as a Business & Economics Teacher.  I quickly took on a maternity cover as Head of Business & Economics for six months and then from August 2021 I have been Head of Business, which I have thoroughly enjoyed.  Ensuring that students receive top quality learning and teaching and providing fantastic extra-curricular activities for students.

I retrained as a teacher to impart all of my real life business experiences and knowledge on to the leaders of tomorrow.  These experiences have allowed me to share these in exciting lessons with students. I am passionate about the pastoral care and wellbeing of our students and this is why I am excited to be taking on the role of Head of Year 11.  I firmly believe that the student is at the centre of everything and the community around them needs to work together in partnership to benefit their experiences and opportunities.  Since joining WIS I have worked hard to support students, parents and staff and I look forward to continuing this with Year 11, in what is a very important and exciting year for the students with their GCSE Exams.
