Liam Hawksworth
Head of Year 9
I joined GEMS Wellington
International School in August 2021 as a teacher of Modern Foreign Languages,
having spent several years teaching in the UK. I feel pleased and privileged to
continue in my post as Head of Year 9, having started as Head of Year 8 in
August 2022. I will continue to ensure that the children in my care feel safe,
respected and cared for. I truly believe that, only in an environment like
this, can children thrive, flourish and exceed their academic potential.
I began my teaching career
in Nottinghamshire, the East Midlands, where I completed my teacher training
with Teach First, and subsequently graduated from the Teach First Leadership
Development Programme with a PGDE in education. In addition, I have worked in
schools in Derbyshire, also located in the East Midlands of the UK. Here, I
coached and mentored Newly Qualified Teachers. I have a BA (Hons) degree in
Spanish and French from the University of Leicester. As part of my degree
course, I was granted the opportunity to live and study in Puebla, Mexico and
Bordeaux, France. This international experience highlighted the beauty of
working in a harmonious multi-cultural environment. Last year, I completed the
SSAT Lead Practitioner Accreditation Programme.
