Helen England

Head of Year 5

I began my time at GEMS Wellington International School in the August of 2021. Before this I had been working in a state funded school in London, which is where I began my teaching career.

After completing my undergraduate degree in Sociology at the University of Kent in 2013, I worked for one year as a Teaching Assistant in a Secondary School in Yorkshire. This is where my love and passion for teaching developed and I decided to complete my PGCE in Primary Education at Brunel University. I moved to London and was lucky enough to complete two incredible placements: one at a state school and one at a Hindu faith Private School. I was offered a job at my first placement and began my teaching career as an NQT in Year 6, where I stayed for 3 years before becoming Head of Year. I then made the move to Year 5 to become the Head of Year 5.

During my time at my previous school, I completed my NPQML as Religious Education Lead and also qualified to become a Borough Writing Moderator for the KS2 assessments.

I have strong belief that outstanding teaching stems from building strong relationships with the students in your class and that wellbeing should be at the forefront of everything we do as teachers. I like to ensure children feel safe and secure and therefore are ready to learn and reach their full potential.
