Shannen Gill

Director of Maths

After graduating from Nottingham Trent University, I have taught across the Primary years and moved to management two years ago. At WIS, I am incredibly excited to be Director of Innovation and Digital Technology; building on our outstanding digital provision to include robotics, artificial intelligence and virtual realities, to bring them to the forefront of education. My previous roles have included Digital Learning Leader, Computer Science lead and I am looking forward to building innovative ideas and new technologies in

With over a decade of experience in mathematics education and leadership across the UK and UAE, I lead the Mathematics Department at GEMS Wellington International School with a strong commitment to high-performance teaching, academic rigour, and a genuine enthusiasm for mathematical thinking.

I oversee Mathematics provision from KS3 through IGCSE, including IGCSE Further Pure Mathematics, AQA Level 2 Further Maths, International A-Level, and IB pathways. I ensure that curriculum design, assessment, and classroom practice promote both strong attainment and deep conceptual understanding, while fostering a culture of curiosity, resilience, and confidence in all learners.

I have strengthened the mathematics enrichment culture at WIS by empowering students to participate in national and international competitions such as UKMT, AMC, the British Mathematical Olympiad, Challenge ME, KenKen, and the Dubai Maths Super League. I also developed the Maths Ambassadors initiative, enabling student leaders to organise events such as Pi Day and to gather student voice, ensuring that teaching practice continues to evolve to best support learners across all abilities. In addition, I lead parent engagement sessions to help families understand learning progression and support Mathematics learning at home.

I believe every young person is capable of thinking mathematically, and I see my role as creating personalised pathways for all students—whether building confidence for those who find Mathematics challenging or accelerating and inspiring students preparing for advanced study and future STEM careers.

to the heart of learning and the curriculum whilst creating digitally literate students.
