Rebecca Matthews
Director of MFL / CL KS4
I lead Languages across the school’s pathways, from Primary through Secondary and Post-16. My work is focused on ensuring every student can thrive in languages through carefully sequenced curricula, purposeful assessment and meaningful feedback that supports steady progress over time.
In my lessons, I am committed to inclusive, adaptive teaching so that all learners can access appropriate challenge, build confidence and develop strong communication skills. I also play a key role in strengthening language identity across the school community, helping to create a vibrant culture where multilingualism is celebrated and valued.
Beyond the classroom, I lead and support enrichment opportunities that give languages a high profile and help students feel proud of their learning. Initiatives such as the MFL Spelling Bee and whole-school events like the International Day of Languages provide exciting opportunities for students to share cultural knowledge, practise performance skills and develop their voice in another language. I also oversee the Mother Tongue and Home Language programmes, offering students further opportunities to develop and celebrate their native languages.
I value strong home–school partnerships and work closely with families so they understand student progress and how best to support language learning at home. I believe languages are for everyone, and I am passionate about creating clear, supportive pathways so every student can communicate with purpose, grow in confidence, and engage with the wider world through language.
