GEMS Wellington International is in its fourth year of operation now – and what a long way the school has come since those early days. We have over 1800 students now, from over 85 countries – a truly international and cosmopolitan community. Over 130 teachers deliver the English National Curriculum, assisted by over 55 Learning Support Assistants. And with our support team – Office, transport, maintenance and technical support we have a workforce in excess of 300 people. But these are simply the statistics that underpin what GEMS Wellington International School is doing – shaping the lives of young people who will be leaders in a global community in the 21st century. Our task is to equip them with the skills, attributes, values and knowledge that will serve them well in an ever changing world, a world where the only certainty is change.
Our programme reflects the international community we serve, with the English National Curriculum leading to GCSE and IGCSE examinations. We provide AS and A level courses for senior students giving them access to the top Universities around the globe. Next year we will – subject to accreditation, deliver the International Baccalaureate to our most senior students. A thread running through our programme focuses work on creativity, problem solving and independent learning, skills that will be vital in the workforce of the 21st century.
Our focus is entirely on people – our resources and facilities are first class, but they are only the tools that help us work with people. Parents are equal partners in the process and we welcome them to our school. The home is the primary educational environment for children – they spend over 75% of their day with families so our goal must be to engage with families to provide an exciting, innovative experience, at every opportunity.
I am really proud of the work that goes on at GWIS, it is an invigorating place to work; something exciting happens every day and every day there is something that makes me smile. GWIS provides just that, a great environment and great ethos for learning. We really enjoy seeing visitors and we would be proud to show you our school.
