Head of Onyx House
I joined GEMS Wellington International School in August 2014 as a Teacher of Geography and Year 8 Form Tutor. I joined WIS after previously teaching for 4 years in Liverpool. It was always a dream of mine to come and teach in Dubai after visiting here many times before. It was an incredible opportunity for me to join a multicultural school where we have such an amazing community of students, parents and staff. Not only this, it is a great place for me to show my leadership skills and after one year at WIS I moved into the Head of House Onyx position.
Here is where my passion really lies. The pastoral role is so important in school as I want to ensure all the students and parents are happy. The wellbeing and safeguarding of all students is my main priority. I am now a Designated Safeguarding Lead in our school and completed this training in 2019 which was a great progression for me in my pastoral role.
Another passion of mine is Geography. As a teacher of Geography, I hope to instill a love of the world around us to students too. We have such amazing initiatives running in our school which link to Geography and I was lucky enough to be part of the school trip to Italy, where we climbed Mount Vesuvius and had the opportunity to visit Pompei. It was an incredible opportunity and one that the students still talk about today. I also have climbed three other volcanoes on my travels and hope there to be more in the future too.
