International Baccalaureate
Following a successful visit by the IBO in March 2009 GEMS Wellington International School is now officially an 'IB World School' and authorised to deliver the IB Diploma programme from September 2009 onwards. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is an internationally focused two year curriculum that has a worldwide reputation of excellence. It is widely accepted by universities across the globe as being a qualification of quality, with many top universities actually giving precedence to good diploma scores over their own national curriculums. International Baccalaureate students wishing to study at British universities will be awarded a standard UCAS score in the same manner as if they were studying an ‘A’ level course
Whilst the IBDP is certainly a course that encourages a breadth of learning, and demands commitment from students in terms of effort and time, the course aims to be inclusive and can be accessed by students with an array of academic abilities.
The authorization process has been a very thorough one encompassing the development of a thorough study of the Senior School’s resources, staffing, philosophy, and international focus. During the lead up to authorisation staff involved in the running and teaching of the programme have received comprehensive Professional Development, both externally and internally, and will continue to do so as part of the implementation of the Diploma programme from September 2009.
It is important that the process and information about the Diploma programme is transparent to the whole school community, and as such there will continue to be information sessions for both students and parents over the coming year, to ensure all of your questions regarding the programme are met.
