Students from Foundation Stage to Year 9 attend the Library Resource Centre
(LRC) once a week. Students in Year 10 and above visit the LRC with their subject classes from time to time to carry out directed research and are also expected to make use of the LRC for independent study and research.
One of our aims is to foster the growth of the individual through the development of a love of reading. To facilitate this and student’s independent study, the LRC is open before school, at lunch times and after school for students to change books as often as needed.
We encourage our Primary students to take their books home to share with their parents. Students from Year 3 to Year 13 may use the appropriate LRC (Primary or Secondary) after school on Sundays, Mondays & Wednesdays (see opening times below) for study / leisure reading purposes. Students in FS1 to Year 2 may use the Primary LRC before and after school but must be accompanied by an adult. Parents of Primary students may accompany their children to do home work or read in the Primary LRC.
Opening Times
Sunday, Monday & Wednesday: 7.35am to 9.50am and 10.10am to 4.00pm
Tuesday: 7.35am to 9.50am and 10.10am to 3.00pm
Thursday: 7.35am to 10.25am and 10.55am to 1.30pm
Care of Books
A book, once loaned to a student, is the student’s responsibility until it is returned to the LRC. The LRC staff check books for damage on return and on loan; students are encouraged to check the condition of books before they remove them from the LRC. If a book is damaged while on loan to a student an invoice is issued for the replacement charge. Students will not be permitted to borrow books again until the invoice is settled.
• Books must be looked after carefully
• Food and drink must be kept away from books
• Pages must be turned carefully and not bent – please use bookmarks.
• Books must be kept out of reach of pets, babies or others who may not know how to treat them carefully.
• It is helpful for students to be provided with a plastic folder or bag to keep their library books in when not being read. This will protect the books when being transported in school bags where most damage seems to occur.
Please help us by reinforcing at home what children will be taught in school about book care
All library books are covered, some with slip-on covers which must be left on the books. Missing covers will be charged for.
Overdue Books
Overdue books will incur late fines. Two overdue notices are issued and then an invoice is issued for the replacement of the book, the cover and the fine. Students will not be permitted to borrow books until the book is returned or the invoice is settled. Should the book be returned to the LRC within one month of payment a refund is made.
LRC Computers
The computers in the LRC’s are strictly for school work and school assignment research only. We do not allow games, chat, messaging, emails, downloads or Face Book (or similar). Use of the computers is protected by the School Firewall and monitored by LRC staff.
